I've used Onenote with and without a tablet PC for about 5 years or so and I agree that it is the most useful tool I use. I am a "road warrior" consultant, traveling every week and thanks to OneNote and my Neat Receipts scanner, I am totally paperless. A feature of OneNote that I really like is the ability to drop flags in my notes, and then review all my flags at once - creates your todo list automatically! Also, the search feature, especiallly with handwriting, is great - I'm always trying to remember something and can't remember which meeting it was at, but searching OneNote always finds it. I agree that there are few shortcomings in functionaity, but generally speaking, OneNote is a great tool!

I use one note off and on, I try to use it for 2 purposes - todo list mgmt and notes. I've gone through all the PIM and outlines, mind mappers etc but in the end, one note is what I come back to. I just wish it was smarter about information chunks in my todo list since I like everyone else I'm working on 8 different things and the tasking/todo details become long and multi step. ... anyways ...

I don't remember OneNote 2003 at all! My mistake!

When you think about it though, OneNote has really been around for a very long time, by a different name. It's basically the "Office Binder" idea that they were trying to push for about a decade if I recall, but with a lot less emphasis on OLE embedding to other Office apps.

J.Ja

There was OneNote 2003, then SP1 made some major changes. Then the 2007 version.

I used OneNote since the original 2003 version, 2007 was a letdown. Nothing major changed.

I have since switched to Evernote and I like it a lot better. Just a few features are the sync between machines, the mobile versions, the html view from anywhere, sending emails to get then into my notes, the OCR capabilities. They also have a OneNote importer.
