Occasionally I find WinRAR is able to extract drivers/components from the installation .exe
I've never used the OEM install disk for any of my laptops since day one. It's always clean installed with a light tweak using vLite, Windows Update turned off (I rely solely on Autopatcher), and latest driver from the ODM (not OEM) for things like chipset, video, audio, touchpad...etc.

Right now between my two laptops, a 14.1" and 12.1", the more powerful 14.1" is running Windows Server 2008 x64 while the 12.1" ultraportable is running Windows 7.

A side note, there have been reports that Windows 7 beta1 build7000 has something like >30% better battery life than Windows XP (not Vista!!!). I'm planning to test that out with my 14.1" which consists of T5600, 2x2GB and 945GM to see how much better Windows 7(NT6.1) is over NT6(2K8/Vista) in the next few days. Results will be posted on XCPUS' forum.

That's why I only install raw drivers without running the EXE. I hate all the extra crap hardware vendors put in. I don't want to see a 100MB "driver", I want to see 200 KB device drivers.

If there is one thing I hate, it's a PC loaded with crap from a vendor. I can't even tolerate their Crapware that comes with HP printers. And who are they to say that the PC is personal again. Their crapware makes a system anything but personal.

Use CCleaner to export a list of installed apps. You'd be shocked to see what's installed on a new machine. Easiest thing to do is nuke.
