Debunking cell phone radiation alarmism

cell-phoneThe “Environmental Working Group” ewg.org just put out their report on the dangerous of cell phone Radio Frequency (RF) fields.  The problem is that their report either relies on very small studies that show a possible correlation with increased cancer rates but they completely omit the largest studies that found no dangers with cell phone RF fields.

The EWG makes several claims in their executive summary but they seem to contradict the larger body of evidence.  Read the rest at Digital Society.

I read this. While I am not instantly going out and getting a new phone with a lower RF field, I don’t think that excessive use of some of these phones would be wise. Now when we say these phones, I mean the people who have the phones next to their heads none stop and spend more time on a phone than not. Then again, I am an advocate of actually interacting with people and not communicating solely by phone/email/text message. Though I do have exceptions to this rule because some people are so easy to get along with.

Now here is the real kicker with this study, while they studied in depth the cell phone, they never bothered to consider the blue tooth or other wireless head sets. Then again, how many of those 500 or even 420,000 were on wireless head sets? When testing for something like this, all variables need to be accounted for. This especially applies for a small sampling.

Claim 3 is hilarious to me because I grew up in the age of “Medicate the Children.” My guess is also that if you have a pregnant mom who spends a lot of time on the phone, she will probably continue this trend as a mother and will therefore not spend time with her child. In other words, their child is starving for attention, “Duh!” But after all, we are dealing with scientists that are trying to take in account every aspect of their study so I am sure they wouldn’t possibly fail to consider the neglected children.

All in all, I am sure that everyone wants a Cell Tower in their back yard. In fact give me two, right next to that fiber connection that goes across the street that I can’t tap into.

Never fail, alarmist media wins researchers more federal funding.

I am alright with new taxes that go towards things that might be helpful instead of research to things that are absurd like this.

Think of all the tax dollars could go into research of green technologies or genetic research to cure something that would otherwise be passed up. Train infrastructure or some other tech that could improve society. I for one would like to research a way to farm tuna to improve availability of Sushi.
