Asus 1000HE is now one of the best netbooks on the market

There’s a new candidate for the best netbook on the market as far as I’m concerned and it is the Asus Eee 1000HE.  Had it come with the GN40 chipset like many of us thought, it would have taken the top spot but it now shares the honors with the Dell Mini 12.  $375, it sets a new bar in features per dollar.  I’ve posted a guest article here on notebooks.com and you can read all about it.

One interesting note is that after visiting Fry’s Electronics tonight, all of the Acer Aspire Ones have dropped about $40 in price.  The entry level One costs $260 and the mid-end model comes in at $300.  This makes them competitive again but the price of netbooks will continue to decline and the features continue to improve.

The Dell Mini 12 has the Poulsbo chipset which has HD acceleration and the nicer 12.1″ display. That’s why I still like that laptop. The battery on the 1000HE is much nicer though.

I think I will wait a few more months until the Ion Platform is released. While there have been many improvements to the Intel Chipsets, I think they still lag far behind the rest of the industry when video comes in play.

I am still wanting a Dual Core Atom as well. Although the 9.5 hour battery life is a definite plus

Ion is a gaming/HTPC nettop. It uses dual-core Atom and a 9400 chipset and the combination of the two is too much power consumption for a netbook.
