It's been nearly 3 months since I departed ZDNet.  I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me after getting laid off at ZDNet.com regardless of whether it led to anything or not.  I'm not mentioning any names but you know who you are and I want you to know how much I appreciate your help.  It's been a rough two and a half months and my friends and colleagues have made all the difference in the world.

This week, I'm proud to announce that I've officially joined Washington DC based Think Tank ITIF.org (The Information Technology & Innovation Foundation) as a Senior Analyst.  I will still be based out of Silicon Valley working remotely and I'll occasionally fly to Washington DC, Brussels, and anywhere else I need to be.

Just two years three months ago I worked as an IT consultant.  These last two years I've been a blogger and journalist covering IT and technology.  Now I'm starting a new chapter in my career and I look forward to it.

Some have asked me in the comment section below if I intend to keep blogging here.  The answer is yes, I will continue to blog here.

Congratulations, George. The ITIF folks are great people.

Congrats! I know what it is like to have rapid, major fluctuations in career, it's always fun to see where we bounce!

Big congratulations, George... what was that line, from that song, by that band?... oh yeah... "The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!"... and for the life of me I can not remember who the band was, but anyway, ever upward and onward... always try to improve, no matter how many rotten onions get flung your way... is this current adventure, formortals.com, going to continue, and/or how is this going to affect this blog?... and do you ever get to sleep?... I am on-call 24/7 doing IT work, mostly tech support/consulting, for about 8-10 different entities, and I know how busy it can, nah, scratch that, how busy it does get...

Congrats, George!

Sounds like it will be a good opportunity for you. Nice to see you land something "relatively" quickly in this increasingly difficult economic situation...

Congrats George! Am I right or am I right? When one door closes, two more opens :) All the best and stay positive.

Sorry I haven't had any time at all to help with the site. I'm up to my neck with projects at work (which isn't a bad thing).

Thanks hhandoko

I'm running in to some real hard limitations with DotNetNuke, especially the blogging module. Do you know of a more robust commercial blog module?

Hi George,

Unfortunately for blogging purposes, the core blog module seems to be your only option. If you want to stay within the MS platform, you might want to check these two out:

http://www.dotnetblogengine.net/
http://communityserver.com/get-it-now/express/

Pros: They're fit for purpose, and more robust for what you want it to do.
Cons: You're starting from scratch again.

Cheers.

Good luck George. If you hide your personality well enough, I'm sure you can make it there for awhile as well.

cheers

Congratulations to you.

That is definatly good news to hear. (also a good thing you aren't tied up with C-Net now) Maybe, there will be a voice of reason and common sense in Washington. Those people there certainly need it. Watch out for 'Sharks' though. -d

Congratulations!

Good Luck... will miss your articles from ZDNet - one of the few that are/were grounded in reality.
